The Gingerbread George StoryGingerbread George was the nickname given by his peers to one of Otago’s early and eminent Architects. He was responsible for the design of the impressive Dunedin railway station and the extensive decoration and elaborate design of this building led them to coin the nickname for him. This building is just one of many impressive and interesting heritage buildings, both in Otago and throughout New Zealand that testify to it’s beginning from the time of the arrival of the first European settlers. The miniatures are reproduced exactly by our company using the artistic skills of local artists, and this is testimony to the growing interest in the history of New Zealand which has become unique in the world due to the amalgam of cultures commencing from the first Maori settlers, followed by the early European settlers, then the Chinese settlers attracted by the discovery of gold, the growing pacific island communities, and continuing settlement by new migrants from many other cultures. This amalgam of cultures has, and will continue to have, a profound effect on the style of architecture in New Zealand. Gingerbread George Ltd has a growing range of some of the most interesting of these buildings in miniature form for the enjoyment of those wishing to collect handcrafted individually made replicas which capture in transportable form, our early heritage buildings. In addition, the skill of our Artists has enabled Gingerbread George Ltd to undertake special projects for clients who have projects that require the specialist knowledge and skills of our miniature makers, sculptors and painters who are able to demonstrate the attention to detail that typified the ability of Gingerbread George. |
